A new class of haptic tech will redraw the borders of reality
VR experiences are getting more and more impressive, sometimes nearly indistinguishable from reality. Yet, full immersion still lacks one key element — a sense of touch. Afference’s newest device, the Phantom, wants to change that by replicating touch in the digital world.
The Phantom creates what Afference refers to as "haptic illusions." The rings stimulate nerves with electrical signals, tricking your nervous system into believing you're physically interacting with objects in a virtual space.
Though the current technology only offers basic tactile sensations, it marks a groundbreaking step that is paving the way to transform visual mediums into fully multidimensional experiences.
And we had the chance to experience it. Check it out.
